Fadel Megahed, professor, Jay Shan, associate professor, and Arthur Carvalho, associate professor, of Information Systems and Analytics, and Mohammad Mayyas, chair and professor of Engineering Technology and associate dean for Strategic Initiatives, received $749,956 from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. Of that, $726,185 is for the project entitled "SIGHT: Safety Immersion and Gamified Hazard Training for Industry 5.0 Workers." and $23,771 is for the project entitled "Evaluation of SIGHT: Safety Immersion and Gamified Hazard Training for Industry 5.0 Workers."
David Berg, University Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences, and Michelle Boone, associate professor of Biology, received $465,000 from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "REU Site: Ecology in Human-Dominated Landscapes."
Michael Vanni, University Distinguished Professor of Biology (retired) and adjunct professor of Biology; Maria Gonzalez, professor of Biology; Lesley Knoll; associate professor of Biology; Bartosz Grudzinski, associate professor of Geography; and Thomas Fisher, professor of Statistics, received $316,685 from the National Science Foundation for continued support of a project entitled "LTREB Renewal: Response of a reservoir Ecosystem to Changing Subsidies of Nutrients and Detritus."
David Riggs, director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center in the Department of Commerce at the Voice of America Learning Center, received $437,984 from the Ohio Development Services Agency, pass-through funds from the Small Business Administration, in the amount of $437,984 for a project entitled “Ohio SBDC at Miami Regionals."
Mark Scott, associate professor, and Chi-Hao Cheng, professor and chair, of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Meenakshi Narayan, assistant professor, and Mohammad Mayyas, chair and professor of Engineering Technology, received $244,777 from the Ohio Department of Higher Education for a project entitled "Electrical Power Conversion in Manufacturing Space."
Clayton Cooper, assistant professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, received $199,066 from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "ERI: Autonomous Digital Twinning of Manufacturing Systems Through Deep Learning-Enabled Computer Vision and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles."
Zeb Baker, dean of the Honors College, received $100,000 from The Kettering Fund for the project entitled "Miami University Honors College: Urban Leadership Internship Program (ULIP)."
Yvette Kelly-Fields, regional director of development, received $50,000 from the First Financial Foundation for a project entitled "Early College Academy."
Elizabeth Bath, assistant athletic director, business operations and services, received $361,033 from the Mid-American Conference (MAC), pass-through funds from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, for the project entitled "NCAA Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund"; and $46,218 from the MAC, pass-through funds from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, for the project entitled "NCAA Special Assistance Fund"; and $112,144 for the project entitled "NCAA Academic Enhancement Fund."
Lei Kerr, professor of Chemical, Paper, and Biomedical Engineering, received $40,600 from the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education, pass-through funds from the Air Force Research Laboratory, for a project entitled "Development of a multiplexed continuous sensing device for human performance."
Sarah Woodruff, director of the Discovery Center for Evaluation, Research, and Professional Development, received $33,121 from the Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital, pass-through funds from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, for the project entitled "Evaluation of Expanding and Sustaining PAX in Ohio Schools," of which $25,486 is designated to the Discovery Center.
Denise Tyler and Kate Perepezko, research scientists in the Scripps Gerontology Center, received $39,382 from Trellis, pass-through funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for a project entitled "Evaluation of an Alzheimer's Disease Program Initiative: Expanding Dementia Capability through Innovation and Person Centered Solutions in Minnesota."
Tyler also received $16,761 from the University of Michigan, pass-through funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for a project entitled "Nursing Home Staff Dementia Attitudes, Facility Culture, and Staff Turnover."
Yue Li, associate director of the Discovery Center for Evaluation, Research, and Professional Development, received $41,944 from Youngstown State University, with pass-through from the National Science Foundation, for the project entitled "Evaluation of CS for All: RPP Involve Students with ASD in Computing."
Several faculty received funds from Ohio Space Grant Consortium, pass-through funds from Ohio Department of Higher Education. Each project received $23,400:
- Muhammad Jahan, associate professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and graduate student Braden Cowger, for a project entitled "Development of High Performance PDMS Composites using Additive Manufacturing for Wearable Aerospace Applications."
- James Leonard, adjunct instructor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and graduate student Bradley Gartner ’25 for a project entitled "Remote Sensing Methods for Agricultural Applications."
- Benjamin Carter Hamilton, associate professor, Jeong-Hoi Koo, professor, and Cory Webbe, graduate student, in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, for a project entitled "Simulation and Characterization of Advanced Structures in Aerospace Applications."
- Mehdi Zanjan, associate professor, and Harris Brotman, graduate student, in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, for a project entitled "Computational Design of Microscale Metamaterials with Reinforcement Learning."
Abigayle Robinson, scholarship coordinator in the Office of Student Financial Assistance, received $50,000 from Scioto Foundation for the project entitled "Student Scholarships."
Sharon Burket, Miami University Police Department sergeant, received $23,573 from the Ohio Department of Higher Education for a project entitled "2025 Miami University ODHE Campus Student Safety Grant."
Jennifer Siliko, director of Outdoor Pursuits in the Recreational Sports Center, received $25,199 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, with pass-through funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the project entitled "Outdoor Pursuit Center Canoe Instruction Enhancement Program."
Rebecca Baudry Young, director of Student Wellness, received $10,000 from PreventionFIRST! for the project entitled "Prevention First! Ohio Campus Community Partnerships."
