Winners announced in the 2024 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the $10,000 Yeck Award

Winners of the 2024 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the $10,000 William (Miami '36) and Dorothy Yeck Award were announced at a reception for the 10 finalists Feb. 9 in Hiestand Galleries. 

The winners were selected by competition juror Lauren Haynes, director of Curatorial Affairs and Programs at the Queens Museum. 

This national competition for artists ages 25-35 celebrates the current trends in contemporary painting. The 2024 competition focused on non-representational paintings. The work of all 10 finalists are on view at the Hiestand Galleries through March 15.

Emily Bartolone won the 2024 Miami University Young Painters Competition and $10,000 for her painting “Good Will, 2023.”  She received her BFA from the University of Dayton and her MFA in 2021 from Kent State University and is the curator of the Malone Art Gallery at Malone University. Her work has been published in Art Hole Magazine, London, ENG, and Okay Cool Magazine, and has been in exhibited in galleries including Project Gallery V, New York City, and the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, among others, 

Stephen Proski received $2,500 and second place for his painting “Clawing Out the Eyes of God.” He received his MFA from Boston University in 2023 and his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. He is a blind/disabled artist, writer, and advocate.

Jenny Wu received $2,000 and third place for her painting “A Set of Lies That Have Been Agreed On, 2023.”  She received her MFA from American University in 2015 and is a visiting assistant professor of Fine Arts at Trinity College.
