OARS will offer a 6-week, hands-on workshop to assist participants in developing a proposal for submission to an external funding agency (read more here). Interested faculty and staff can indicate their availability by completing this survey.
As of August 1, 2015, Miami University no longer subscribes to ProQuest's funding opportunity database, Pivot, and will instead subscribe to a similar product from InfoEd called SPIN Global Suite.
The switch will provide Miami's faculty, staff, and students with a substantially similar service at a savings of nearly $14,000 over the next two years.
Our subscription to the SPIN Global Suite began July 1, so it is currently available to the Miami University community at http://infoedglobal.com. (Click on SPIN next to "CLIENT LOGIN TO:" at the very top of the page.) Please consider bookmarking this site for easy access in the future.
Two workshops are scheduled to introduce researchers and scholars to SPIN. They are scheduled for 3:00-4:00p on Wednesday, September 9 and 9:00-10:00a on Tuesday, September 15. (Click on the date to register.) Keep an eye on the events calendar for additional dates.
The deadline for eligible faculty to submit an application for a CFR Faculty Research Grant is 5:00pm on Friday, October 16, 2015. The deadline to submit a nomination for a CFR Distinguished Scholar or Junior Faculty Scholar Award is 5:00pm on Monday, March 7, 2016. Applications for the CFR PREP Program are accepted any time.
To encourage the formation of interdisciplinary teams to submit proposals to the NSF's Interdisciplinary Behavioral & Social Science (IBSS) program, OARS will host a networking event on Monday, September 14 from noon to 1:00pm. Interested researchers should register by Thursday, September 30.
On January 1, 2015, Miami University began using a new online system to manage routing and submission of external funding proposals. All faculty and staff are required to use the new eSPA (electronic sponsored program administration) for all external funding proposals. (Read more about eSPA here.)
If you are involved in submitting proposals for external funding, we strongly encourage you to attend one or more training sessions. Each 90-minute session provides an overview of the online system and walks through the steps involved in creating a proposal record, building a proposal, routing a proposal for approvals and monitoring proposal and award activity.
Sessions are currently scheduled for 10:00-11:30am on Wednesday, September 16 and 3:00-4:30pm on Thursday, September 24. (Click on the date to register.) Keep an eye on the events calendar for additional dates.
OARS has been alerted by IT Services that some users installing the Firefox browser (which is recommended for use with our eSPA system) have become infected with malware when they have inadvertently downloaded software from a non-Mozilla website. We have been advised to instruct Mac users to download Firefox from Miami's Self Service portal and to instruct Windows 7 and 8 users to install Firefox from the Miami Application Catalog. Further, IT Services recommends that anyone who needs to use an outdated version of Java or an outdated version of a browser (as is necessary for some applications) should use a remote app portal for Windows or Mac instead of declining to install updated software, a practice that can leave computers vulnerable to ransomware, malware, and viruses.
