International Application

With over 60 Master's and Doctoral degree programs, Miami University offers something for nearly everyone. Miami is home to over 1,200 highly qualified international students from more than 90 different countries. You will find that Miami offers a warm and welcoming environment for international students and their families.

In order for the graduate program to review your application for admission, please make sure you complete the following.


Application

We recommend applicants submit an online application and pay the non-refundable $50 application fee with a credit card. If you need a paper application, please contact the Graduate School at + 1 513 529 3734 or email applygrad@miamioh.edu.

Attention Applicants from China:  There is a website available at www.alpps.org which allows you to create a student profile before you apply to our university.  This profile provides us with information about you that can differentiate you from your peers. This website is not a part of our official application process; however, we can use this student profile to evaluate you as a potential applicant to our university.  Your student profile can be created and submitted at any time of the year for our review.

Academic Record/Transcript

Applicants must submit 1 copy of their academic record/transcript at the time of application. We accept unofficial documents at the time of application and perform evaluations in the Graduate School free of charge. International applicants for graduate study must have earned a university degree at least equivalent to the American Bachelor's degree: typically at least 16 years of schooling, with four years of full-time study at the university level, culminating with the award of a first or second degree. If you submit an online application, you will be required to upload your academic documents. If you submit a paper application, please include the academic documents along with your paper application and payment.

Proof of English Proficiency

Applicants who studied in a country or institution where English is not the official language must submit proof of English proficiency. For more information, please go to English Language Proficiency. We accept the below tests and minimum scores for admission, but please note that some programs have higher English requirements.

  • TOEFL iBT 80
  • IELTS 6.5
  • PTE 54
We offer Conditional Admission to applicants with English proficiency scores below our minimum requirement. You may chose this admission type on the application. For more information about our language program, please go to American Culture and English Language Program.
Supplementary Materials

Many graduate programs require supplementary materials as part of their application process. These materials may be a Personal Statement, CV/Resume, Letters of Recommendation, Portfolio or Audition. You may check the Graduate Program Guide or contact the program directly for more information about supplementary materials, deadline dates and test scores. Please check our FAQs for more information about the supplementary materials.

Application Deadline

Since deadline dates vary by academic program, we strongly encourage you contact your degree program of interest directly for more information. Please note, all application materials must be received by the deadline date for your application to be reviewed for admission. 

ETS Code

Miami's institutional code for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is 1463.

Please be aware that, if admitted, you will need to provide a financial affidavit (bank statement, scholarship letter) before you can receive your immigration documents.
While you do not need to submit affidavits during your admission process, the Office of International Students and Scholar Services will be unable to issue any immigration documentation to you until you submit these.
