As of this Fall, Miami University’s College of Creative Arts now offers a B.A. in Studio Art to expand options for students, with a more flexible schedule and a broader curriculum.

“What makes this degree really unique is that along with the B.F.A., there’s a capstone and a public exhibition of student’s work at the end of the program,” said Chair of the Department of Art Amanda Alexander. 

Unlike the B.F.A. in Studio Art, the B.A. in Studio Art requires less credit hours to complete. The B.F.A. in Studio Art also requires a portfolio for admission into the program, while the B.A. does not.

“The B.F.A. is really geared towards artists who want more in-depth training in a particular area of Art—such as painting. However, the B.A. in Studio Art is a more holistic approach and is a great option for students wanting a general Art degree with broader career options, or to pair it as a double major or with a minor,” explained Alexander. “I’m excited to see how students match the B.A. with perhaps Biology, Anthropology, Computer Science, just to name a few, and/or other areas in the arts.”   

Students can expand their B.A. in Studio Art to pursue a B.F.A. in Studio Art, or they can transfer from a B.F.A in Studio Art to the B.A. 

“The degrees work together. If a student wants to pursue a more in-depth area of study, they can switch to the B.F.A. If a student is in the B.F.A. but wants to scale back, they can transfer to the B.A. and do that,” said Alexander.
