Orientation and Transition Programs

Orientation and Transition Programs serves as a central resource for new Miami students and their family members. We want you to have a successful academic and social transition to college through the orientation process for new students. It starts with orientation, but it doesn't stop there!

Orientation

All incoming students are required to attend an orientation session, and there are separate programs for incoming first-year students, transfer students, international students, and students changing campuses from the regionals to Oxford. Learn more about these options and which program is best for you.

Beyond Orientation

Orientation is just one piece of your transition to Miami University, and it takes time. Miami Bound programs happen the week before classes start. Welcome Weekend and the First 50 Days is a robust series of events and programs welcoming you to Miami as the fall semester begins. And the majority of Miami students are enrolled in a first-year experience course during the fall semester.

New Student Portal

Access the new student portal to register for or change your orientation date, verify your major, and review additional steps you may need to take before attending orientation. Log in with your Miami unique ID and password.

Leadership

We offer opportunities for students to engage in a number of leadership roles through our office. These opportunities will help you build new skills, prepare for a future career, and make a meaningful contribution to students new to campus.

Explore the following links to learn more about how you can get involved:

  • Lead small groups of new students during orientation (among other things) as a SOUL (Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader).
  • Support first-year experience courses in the classroom as an Undergraduate Associate (UA).
  • plore options like graduate assistanships, orientation internships, and graduate practicum opportunities.

Join us in shaping new students' experiences while developing essential skills that will propel you towards success. We look forward to seeing you thrive as a leader in our community.
